Franco Di Nitto

FRANCO DI NITTO grew up in a Italian family in the Belgian province of Limbourg. The radiant and vibrant charater characteristic of the Mediterranean temperament is softened in him by a fresher and more intimate tone.

He was already fascinated by the piano at a very early age. His first teacher was the famous pianist Patrick Crommelynck. At the age of 15 he made his television debut (VRT) with works by Alexander Scriabin. Franco Di Nitto studied music at the Royal Music Academies of Antwerp and Liège (Belgium). At the Liège Conservatory he studied with Marcelle Mercenier. Afterwards he perfected his musical formation with Jo Alfidi, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Contest, with whom Franco Di Nitto obtained the First Prize with great distinction and the Superior Diploma for piano with highest honors and the Diploma of Methodology. In 1987, the “Association for Permanents Concerts” in Liège attributed their special prize to Franco Di Nitto.

In 1994 his first CD “Tänze, Walzer” by Franz Schubert was released by René Gailly International Productions and has been warmly welcomed by both the public and the press. A reissue of this recording appeared in January 2010. As well in 2010, a new CD recording has been realized with the Kinderszenen, Opus 15 and the Waldszenen, Opus 82 of Robert Schumann and also some pieces of J.S. Bach. In 2013 appeared a new disc with the cellist Rudy Froyen; a compilation of songs without words.

Radio recordings and concerts in Belgium and throughout Europe and the Middle East (Abu Dhabi, Dubai) confirm his talent. On the Das island in the Persian Gulf, in addition, he gave an exceptional concert together with the cellist Rudy Froyen, the violinist Thierry Marinelli and the flutist Christian Plouvier. His repertoire extends from 18th century music to that of our time. His interest is also devoted to contemporary but though tuneful sounding Japanese music by composers such as Yuhki Kuramoto, Yuriko Nakamura, Joe Hisaishi and Ryuichi Sakamoto. His recent encounter in Brussels (June 2015) with Yuhki Kuramoto, one of the greatest Japanese composers, was a very particular, inspiring and exciting moment in his life. Franco Di Nitto has intensively studied the piano music of Schubert, Chopin, Mozart and Brahms and he is either a passionate performer of Flemish Romantic music (Lodewijk Mortelmans, Peter Benoit and August De Boeck).

Franco Di Nitto is piano accompanist and teaches the piano at the Dilsen Academy for Music and at the Conservatory in Hasselt (Belgium). With extraordinary melody sense and first-rate piano-touch, Franco Di Nitto expands his musical activities.

Nowadays he immerses himself in Ragtime music and related music written around 1899-1950. It recently resulted in a new album (The Art of Ragtime Piano) together with the drummer Jarne Claesen. With this new album “Ragtime Duo”, “Keys and Skins”: “Keyboard and drum skins”, Franco Di Nitto pianist and drummer Jarne Claesen, have proposed to make us rediscover this pleasant music without ways.

FRANCO DI NITTO a grandi dans une famille italienne, installée au Limbourg Belge. Le caractère épanoui et vibrant, caractéristique du tempérament méditerranéen, est atténué chez lui par un son plus fraîche et plus intime.

 Son premier professeur fut le pianiste célèbre Patrick Crommelynck. À 15 ans, il fait ses débuts à la télévision (VRT) avec des œuvres de Alexander Scriabine. Ensuite il fit ses études au Conservatoire Royal d’Anvers et de Liège et y obtint de nombreux prix. Au Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Liège il suit des cours de Marcelle Mercenier avant de parfaire, ensuite, sa formation avec Jo Alfidi, lauréat du Concours Reine Elisabeth, avec lequel il obtient le Premier Prix avec grande distinction et le Diplôme Supérieur de piano avec la plus grande distinction ainsi que le Diplôme de Méthodologie. En 1987, Franco Di Nitto se voit décerner le prix spécial de “l’Association des concerts permanents de Liège”.

En 1994, son premier CD “Tänze, Walzer” de Franz Schubert a été publié par René Gailly International Productions et qui à ce temps était chaleureusement accueilli par le public et la presse. Une réédition de cet enregistrement apparu en Janvier 2010. À l’automne de 2010, un nouvel enregistrement de CD est réalisé avec le Kinderszenen, Opus 15 et les Waldszenen, Opus 82, de Robert Schumann et aussi certaines œuvres de J.S. Bach. En 2013, parut un nouveau disque avec le violoncelliste Rudy Froyen; une compilation de chansons sans paroles.

 
Des enregistrements radio et de nombreux concerts tant en Belgique qu’a l’étranger et aussi au Moyen-Orient confirment son talent. Sur l’île Das dans le golfe Persique, en plus, il a donné un concert exceptionnel avec le violoncelliste Rudy Froyen, le violoniste Thierry Marinelli et le flûtiste Christian Plouvier. Actuellement, il pratique avec passion un répertoire allant du 18è siècle jusqu’à nos jours. Son intérêt est également consacré à la musique contemporaine mais pourtant mélodieuse et romantique par des compositeurs tels que Yuhki Kuramoto, Yuriko Nakamura, Joe Hisaishi et Ryuichi Sakamoto. Surtout sa récente rencontre avec Yuhki Kuramoto a Bruxelles (Juin 2015), un des plus grands compositeurs Japonais, était un moment particulier et unique dans sa vie. Ses préférences vont aussi au joyaux de la musique dont fait partie l’œuvre pianistique de Schubert qu’il étudia intensément. Cela lui permit de découvrir la valeur inestimable du répertoire moins connu. Franco Di Nitto est également un musicien passionné de la musique Romantique Flamande (Lodewijk Mortelmans, Peter Benoit et August De Boeck).

FRANCO DI NITTO is opgegroeid in een Italiaans gezin in Belgisch Limburg. De zuiderse zin voor bruisende welluidendheid van klanken is bij hem verstild en gemilderd tot een intieme frisse toon.

 Hij studeerde aanvankelijk piano bij de vermaarde pianist Patrick Crommelynck. Op 15-jarige leeftijd maakte hij zijn televisiedebuut (VRT) met werk van Alexander Scriabin. Aan het “Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Liège” studeerde hij in de klas van Marcelle Mercenier en Jo Alfidi. Hij behaalde een Eerste Prijs met grote onderscheiding, het Hoger Diploma voor piano met de grootste onderscheiding en unanimiteit van de stemmen, alsook het Diploma van Methodologie. In 1987 ontving hij de speciale prijs van “L’Association des concerts permanents de Liège”.

In 1994 verscheen de CD “Tänze, Walzer” van Franz Schubert bij René Gailly International Productions en is indertijd warm onthaald door zowel het publiek als de pers. Een heruitgave van deze opname verscheen in januari 2010. Tevens verwezenlijkte Franco Di Nitto in hetzelfde jaar een nieuwe CD-opname met de Kinderszenen, Opus 15 en de Waldszenen, Opus 82 van Robert Schumann en ook werk van J.S. Bach. In 2013 maakte hij opnieuw een CD met de cellist Rudy Froyen ; een compilatie van liederen zonder woorden.

Franco Di Nitto trad op voor radio en televisie en concerteerde in diverse Europese landen, alsmede in de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. Op het eiland Das in de Perzische golf gaf hij daarenboven een uitzonderlijk concert tezamen met de cellist Rudy Froyen, de violist Thierry Marinelli en de fluitist Christian Plouvier. Het repertorium van Franco Di Nitto bestrijkt een ruime periode, vanaf de 18 eeuw tot heden. Hij is een groot bewonderaar van Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann en Brahms maar is daarbij een gepassioneerd pleitbezorger van Vlaamse Romantische muziek (o.a.van Lodewijk Mortelmans, Peter Benoit en August De Boeck). Zijn belangstelling gaat de laatste jaren ook uit naar Japanse hedendaagse maar melodieuze en romantische muziek van componisten zoals Yuhki Kuramoto, Yuriko Nakamura, Joe Hisaishi en Ryuichi Sakamoto. Zijn recente ontmoeting in Brussel (Juni 2015) met Yuhki Kuramoto, een van de grootste Japanse componisten, was een uniek moment in zijn leven.

Hij is als docent en pianist-begeleider verbonden aan de Muziekacademie van Dilsen-Stokkem en het Stedelijk Muziekconservatorium van Hasselt.

Heden ten dage verdiept hij zich in ragtime en aanverwante muziek geschreven omstreeks 1899-1950. Het resulteerde onlangs in een een nieuw album : “The Art of Ragtime Piano”, tezamen met de slagwerker Jarne Claesen. Met dit nieuwe album “Ragtime Duo”, “Keys and Skins”: “Keyboard and drum skins”, hebben Franco Di Nitto pianist en drummer Jarne Claesen vooropgesteld om ons deze aangename muziek op een pretentieloze manier te laten herontdekken.
